Frequently asked questions
If you don't see your question here, call us at 703-215-8000 — we're happy to help.
General
Where are you located and what are your hours?
We're at 492 Elden Street in Herndon, VA. Open Monday through Friday from 9 AM to 6 PM, Saturday 10 AM to 2 PM, closed Sunday. Free on-site parking, wheelchair accessible.
Do I need an appointment?
Most things — refills, transfers, OTC questions, most vaccines — are walk-in. A few services need an appointment: pediatric vaccines (Fridays only), travel consultations, and compounding consults. Use the booking buttons on our Vaccines and Compounding pages, or just call us and we'll get you on the schedule.
Are you part of a chain?
No. My Dr's Pharmacy is independently owned and locally operated. We've been serving Herndon and Northern Virginia since 2016. Our sister business, My Dr's Apothecary, handles compounding.
How do I get in touch quickly?
Call 703-215-8000 during business hours — a real person answers, often a pharmacist. For non-urgent questions, email info@MyDrsRx.com.
Prescriptions & Refills
How do I transfer my prescription from another pharmacy?
Use the Transfer page on this site, or call us at 703-215-8000. We handle the whole transfer for you — no need to call your old pharmacy. We just need your name, contact info, and where your prescription is now.
How do I refill a prescription?
Once your prescription is filled here, you can request refills through our patient portal (RxLocal), by calling us, or by stopping in. We're happy to set up auto-refill so you never run out.
How long does a refill take?
Typical wait time is about half what you'd expect at a chain pharmacy — often 15-20 minutes for a walk-in refill. Phone-ahead refills are usually ready by the time you get here.
Do you package medications by dose?
Yes. For patients managing multiple daily medications, we sort everything into date- and time-labeled packs so you never miss a dose. Talk to a pharmacist or call us to set this up.
Vaccines
Which vaccines do you offer?
We offer 14+ vaccines including flu, COVID-19, RSV, shingles, Tdap, hepatitis A and B, MMR, meningitis, pneumonia, Polio, HPV, Typhoid, and Yellow Fever. See the full list with details on our Vaccines page.
Do I need an appointment?
Most vaccines are walk-in. Pediatric vaccines (children 12 and under) are by appointment on Fridays. Travel consultations are by appointment.
Do you bill my insurance?
Yes. We bill most major insurance directly, including Medicare and Medicaid. Most vaccines are covered by insurance — we'll check your plan before your visit. Bring your insurance card.
What should I bring?
Government-issued ID, your insurance card(s). Medicare patients should bring the original red, white, and blue Medicare card plus the prescription (Part D) card.
I'm traveling internationally — what do I do?
Book a Travel Consultation. Our licensed clinicians review your itinerary, health history, and recommend vaccines plus any medications you need for your destination. Includes Yellow Fever, Typhoid, traveler's diarrhea prescriptions, malaria prevention, altitude sickness, and more.
Compounding
What is compounding?
Compounding is custom-preparing medication for one specific patient — different strength, different form (liquid vs pill, cream vs oral), without certain ingredients (dyes, gluten, allergens), or in a flavor a child or pet will actually take.
Who does the compounding?
Our sister pharmacy, My Dr's Apothecary, is separately licensed for sterile and non-sterile compounding. They share the same building with us at 492 Elden Street, Suite B.
How do I get a compounded medication?
Talk to your prescriber about whether compounding is right for you. They write a prescription specifying the formulation, and we handle the rest. Or call us first at 703-215-8000 — we can talk through what's possible and coordinate with your doctor.
Medical Equipment
What kinds of medical equipment do you carry?
Compression therapy (Sigvaris, Medi), mobility aids (walkers, rollators, lift chairs from Golden Technologies and Nova Medical), bracing and support, orthopedic footwear, respiratory equipment, bath safety, incontinence supplies, wound and ostomy supplies, and more. Full list on our Medical Equipment page.
How do I find out what something costs?
Call 703-215-8000 and we'll quote you over the phone — or stop in and we'll help you find the right fit while you're here. Most orders are ready the same day.
Do I need to get fitted in person?
We strongly recommend an in-store fitting for compression garments, mobility aids, and orthopedic items. It takes a few minutes and ensures the equipment actually fits and works correctly. Walk in or call to set up a fitting.
Insurance & Billing
What insurance plans do you accept?
We accept most major prescription insurance plans, including Medicare Part D and Medicaid. Our network changes over time, so the most accurate answer is a quick phone call — give us your plan name and we'll verify coverage in real time. Call 703-215-8000.
I don't have insurance — can I still use you?
Absolutely. We offer competitive cash prices and we'll always tell you upfront what something costs. We can also help you check eligibility for manufacturer copay assistance programs and discount cards.
Will I pay more here than at a big-box pharmacy?
No. Independent pharmacies aren't more expensive than chains. With insurance, you pay your regular copay. Cash prices are often very competitive — especially with generic medications.
Pickup & Delivery
Can I buy online and pick up in-store?
You can browse our full catalog online, but orders are placed with our team rather than through an online checkout — that way we can answer your questions and make sure it's the right fit before you pay. Find what you need on our Shop pages, then call 703-215-8000 or stop in to order it. In-store pickup at 492 Elden Street, Herndon is free, and most orders are ready the same day.
Do you deliver?
We can sometimes arrange delivery depending on the order and your location. Call 703-215-8000 or mention it when you place a prescription — we'll talk through what's possible for your situation.
Still have a question?
Call us, email us, or stop by. We'd rather talk through your specific situation than have you guess.
